The French Connection is a 1971 American dramatic thriller film directed by William Friedkin. It stars Gene Hackman, Fernando Rey, and Roy Scheider. The film was adapted and fictionalized by Ernest Tidyman from the non-fiction book by Robin Moore. It tells the story of New York Police Department detectives "Popeye" Doyle and Buddy "Cloudy" Russo. The plot centers on drug smuggling in the 1960s and early '70s, when most of the heroin illegally imported into the East Coast came to the United States through France

Les acteurs principaux sont Gene Hackman, Fernando Rey et Roy Scheider. Le scénario s'inspire de l'enquête de policiers du New York City Police Department qui traquent les réseaux de la French Connection, organisation criminelle qui importait depuis la France la majeure partie de l'héroïne consommée aux États-Unis.
